Quick Self-Editing Tip

Tense Trouble

One of the biggest problems in writing are when you use past perfect or past tense with verbs (ie: past perfect: had walked, past: walked). Easy rule of thumb. . .If you're writing in past tense, anything that happened before the point your story picks up should be in past perfect tense.

Example:

Jane had bought (past perfect) Cyndi Lauper type dress and was (past) less attracted to it now.
